Jerry Smith – Landscapes

Jerry Smith has been a full-time artist since the mid-seventies. He was influenced and taught by Indiana painters Louise Hansen and Floyd Hopper. Jerry was introduced to plein-air painting in a 1976 workshop taught by Don Stone in Rockport, MA. This trip also inspired a fascination with the painting opportunities offered by the New England coastline and has had a major impact on his work. Annual painting trips to the Maine coast compliment his Indiana landscape painting. Travels in recent years to Italy, Ireland and Great Britain have also inspired his work. He has taught watercolor classes at the Indianapolis Art Center and conducted workshops throughout Indiana and the surrounding states.

Jerry works in watercolor, oils, and acrylics. He is a member of the Brown County Art Guild, Indiana Artist Club, Indiana Heritage, Indiana Plein-Air Painters Association, the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (signature member), the International Society of Acrylic Painters (signature member), Oil Painters of America, and is a charter member and Cardinal Fellow of the Watercolor Society of Indiana. He is also a member of the Hoosier Salon and has been included in over 25 Hoosier Salon exhibitions since the mid-seventies. Most recently he became a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists and participated in 14th National Exhibition. He recently authored a book entitled Common Ground featuring a collection of his paintings over the years. He also authored a book published by International Artist, Expressive Landscape in Acrylic, and has been featured in the pages of International Artist Magazine as well as the Artist’s Magazine. His work was included in Indiana Artists of the 21st Century.
